I’m glad to see this question. It is alarming how many psychological professionals claim to know about narcissistic abuse, but in reality, they are clueless. I know this from my own personal experience.
When a victim of narcissitic abuse seeks help from a licensed professional who claims to be qualified to treat Narcissistic Abuse Syndrome, they are seeking someone with that specialty for a reason. Recovering from narcissistic abuse cannot be treated in the same way as ANYTHING ELSE.
I’m not wrong when I say these so-called professionals end up causing further damage to an already traumatized victim. It angers me greatly that the ignorance about the differences in treatment continues.
In the United States, the ignorance among law enforcement, women’s shelters, judges, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and other people in positions of authority is exacerbating the problem.
Awareness is absolutely imperative. Victims do not deserve to be victimized in the first place. They sure as hell don’t deserve to be re-victimized by the very people they are seeking help from.
Victims of Narcissistic Abuse are further traumatized by the blatant ignorance of the very people they seek help from.
